Left Ontario in the rain, and halfway through New York State the sun came out all the way to Kittanning, Pennsylvania!!!
November 30, 2024
It was quite the whirlwind trip ... we left on the 26th at 7am and returned the 29th at 1:30am. We drove to Kittanning, Pennsylvania the first day, stayed at the Quality Inn, a hotel we always stay at when we visit our buddy there. Then around 6:30am we headed to Monrovia, Indiana to pick up an antique piece of machinery that my Man had been searching for, for some time, and headed back to Kittanning, PA. We stayed there again for the night, had breakfast with our buddy and headed home trying to beat that snowstorm that was apparently to start Friday morning and run until Monday night. Man, we are glad we missed that one.
We left home on the 26th at 7am, arriving in Kittanning at 5:30pm.
Left Kittanning, on the 27th at 7am, arriving in Monrovia around 3pm.
Left Monrovia around 6:30pm (hooking up the trailer caused a bit of trouble, so we were delayed a few hours), arriving in Kittanning around 3:30am.......soooo tirrreedd.... but still out of our hotel room for the 11am checkout.
Left Kittanning on the 28th at around 1:30pm... we had breakfast with our buddy before leaving...and arrived back here on the 29th at 1:30am. We were absolutely exhausted, but we had no choice but to outrun that storm...so that in itself gave us the energy to stay awake and keep going.
We did the speed limit all the way to Monrovia, but returning we did below that with the huge 'stone' we had hooked to the back of the truck...in the cold rain, where the temperature jumped back and forth between 1 and 3C, in unknown territory, with a trailer we just picked up...it was just wise but took us a bit longer to get back.
It rained basically the entire time we were gone, and we saw small snow showers during the trip home, but nothing like what is happening right now. It's too bad the weather was as crummy as it was because the scenery was pretty amazing, and my photos didn't do it justice. The exit from the tunnel in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania was AWESOME!!! What a skyline!!! We both gasped!!! I took a photo, but its dog poop compared to the real thing! So beautiful!
We got to celebrate Thanksgiving again which was pretty fun...twice in one year...yumyum!! Americans go all out on this holiday, and it was so great to experience it with them. Everyone wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving no matter where you go!! Everyone was so cheerful and kind. And everyone partook in the festivities! I really enjoyed it!
That storm they had been predicting hit with a vengeance, and lucky for us we missed it by just hours...if not we'd still be down there with no way to get home yet in sight as it's covering the exact trail we took to get home. How lucky is that eh!? Asides from the weather, all in all it was still a great trip and if we do it again, I hope we have more time and no more lake effect storms to worry about...maybe we'll visit in October instead since that is our usual Pennsylvania trip time anyway.
From Pennsylvania to Indiana and back ... I missed West Virginia as I fell asleep!
From Pennsylvania to home...outrunning that snowstorm!!
