Caribbean Cruise Part 3 - First Port - Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
December 7th, we docked in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Obviously, all ports were gated, but this one had its own little village within the gates, with numerous stores, restaurants, bars, play structures, a man-made beach, and even a lazy river running through the center of it all, there was something for everyone. It was so cool! We didn't stick around long though as we went on an excursion, but we walked around when we got back, had lunch at one of the great restaurants there, bought some trinkets and then boarded the ship to go to our next destination.
Our excursion brought us through town, we went to a chocolate store in a cute little alleyway with umbrellas over top to "stop the rain". We then went to a museum with Amber and Cigars...it was Jurassic Park themed as that was apparently where the first movie was shot. We of course went to one of the Forts on the Island but didn't have enough time to go see them all...but it was very cool to see how they lived and worked in such conditions...very strong people indeed. We got back to the port and spent some time there just wandering around. It was such a cool space, if one didn't want to leave, they wouldn't have to...there was so much to do.
That night we saw another amazing performance in the Palace Theater, this time it was the Royal Dancers and Singers and what a great show that was. The talent of their entertainment is beyond incredible. We walked around the ship some more, had free pizza and then went to bed for another big day ahead.
Just a couple nice shots of town.
